約翰杜立德醫生(艾迪墨菲飾)在他小時後就有一種天賦，他能與動物溝通交談，而且無需藉由任何科學儀器的輔助。然而，杜立德醫生的這與生俱來的天賦，隨著年齡的增長，在經過多年之後，由於事情的繁忙及許多雜物的干擾，早已消失的無蹤影。

杜立德醫生與朋友所合開的診所，由於經營不善連年虧損，終於決定要出售讓給別人。當這個消息傳到杜立德醫生太太及二個小女兒的耳中時，她們馬上勸阻杜立德醫生，要他不要斷然下決定，並且支持他。

但是，當一天晚上他開車回家不小心撞到路旁的狗時… 所有的事物全都有了新的結果及發展……

在片中除了仰賴艾迪墨菲精采逗趣的演出，更主要是動物明星在超越《我不笨，所以我有話要說》的演出令觀眾捧腹，片中有一幕醫生診療小狗的畫面，因一位不夠專業的獸醫，不小心讓小狗的屁眼活生生的吞了整支的溫度計，而在不得以的情況下需用手將溫度計取出時，那隻小狗的表情加上電腦技術的運用下，所呈現的畫面令所有在場的觀眾不得不替小狗捏把冷汗，更令人笑翻肚皮。
